Our course in oral health promotion is suitable for registered dental nurses who want to provide oral health education – in clinic and in community – unsupervised and as part of direct access. This is an alternative to the NEBDN qualification.
Learners will refresh their knowledge on the oral cavity including tooth formation, structure and function with a brief review of the tongue and salivary glands.
(1) 5.0 average ratingIn part one, learners will explore the caries process, risk factors and treatment options. In part two, learners will explore the signs, symptoms and management of the most common periodontal diseases .

In part one, learners will explore plaque removal, fluoride and diet . In part two, learners will explore caring for fixed and removable appliances and the link between general and oral health.

In part one, learners will explore the role of the oral health educator and managing anxiety and challenging behaviours. In part two, learners will explore how to communicate effectively with patients, overcome barriers and plan tailored sessions.
Learners will explore the legal and ethical considerations and the importance of evidence based practice.
